Oil level sensor

Oil level sensor

The oil level sensor is mounted in the oil sump. It is float type, i.e. if the oil level in the oil sump gets too low, the float in the sensor will drop and break the ground circuit to the control module. This message goes to the ECM, which confirms that the level is low by evaluating the time during which it has been low.

The ECM then sends a bus message "CHECK OIL LEVEL" to SID. This information from the oil level sensor is a filtered value depending on the temperature, engine speed, acceleration and road speed for obtaining an average value of the oil level.

It is still important to check the oil level using the oil dipstick as before to prevent this message being shown on SID. If the message is still displayed then the oil level is at the MIN level on the dipstick.
