Delay period

Delay period

The delay period function is activated when the engine control module pin 16 (+15) becomes dead, i.e. the ignition has been turned to OFF. The control module determines whether or not the main relay should be turned off based on the presence or absence of + 15.

+15 absent

If +15 disappears, the ignition is considered to be in the OFF position. The proper delay then starts.

+15 present

If +15 is present, the ignition is considered to be in the ON position. If +15 disappears less than 1 second after being connected, the control module automatically goes over to the delay function.

Delay period duration

The delay period duration is 40 seconds. This is important for functions such as DICE that need information on engine temperature to control the radiator fan. Also, any DTCs are stored and the main relay is diagnosed.

Checking control valve shut-off

If the vehicle speed is below 5 km/h and the engine speed is lower than 1300 rpm, control valve cut-off is tested. In that case, engine shut-off occurs with control valve cut-off only. If the engine speed reduces to 200 rpm within 1.3 seconds, the control valve shut-off function is correct.

If a fault in the control valve shut-off is registered or if the vehicle or engine speed limits are exceeded when the ignition key is turned to OFF, the injected fuel quantity will be set to 0 mg/combustion as well. If the vehicle or engine speed limits are exceeded, control valve shut-off cannot be tested as the engine will stop anyway, because the injected fuel quantity has been set to 0 mg/combustion.
