Long starting time, uneven idling speed after cold start (BioPower)

Fault symptoms

Long starting time, uneven idling speed after cold start, especially if the ambient temperature is between 10-35°C. Jerking or hesitation at the start of driving.

Conditions

The symptoms apply to cars equipped with BioPower engines M05-06 up to and including Vehicle Identification Number 63517796.

The cause of the symptom is that the engine control module software is calibrated in an unfavourable range of values within the specified tolerance.

Diagnostic procedure

Update T7 with the latest software (et07f02c.46s or later)

Note

Before SPS programming:

Contact Trionic 7 with Tech 2 and select "BioPower E85".

Note "Adapted ethanol contents" as a percentage. If the control module cannot be contacted then an estimation of the ethanol content must be made. 0% is pure petrol and 85% is pure E85.

Adaptation after SPS programming of T7 for BioPower E85 before starting the engine for the first time.

1. Turn the ignition key to OFF - ON (also check that the radiator fan is engaged)

2. Contact Trionic 7 with Tech 2 and select "BioPower E85"

3. Select "Change" and enter the noted ethanol content as a percentage. Press "OK".

4. Connect an exhaust hose and select "Force" on Tech 2 and follow the instructions on the display.

5. Wait until Tech 2 shows the message "Adaptation done"
