Supplement to pre-delivery service, tightening torque for steering servo pipe

Saab 9-5 RHD within engine alternative B205 and B235, M04-05 within Vehicle Identification Number range 43500147 - 53504430

Background

Certain cars have a tightening torque which is too low on the connection of the delivery pipe to the power steering pump.

Parts required

For replacement of the O-ring:

92 152 387 O-Ring

16-89 96 860 Power steering fluid (sufficient for 5-10 cars)

Procedure


1. Remove the right-hand headlamp, see WIS - 3. Electrical System - Lighting and signalling systems - Adjustment/Replacement - Headlamps.

2. Turn the power steering pump belt pulley using a screwdriver to gain access to the screw securing the delivery line bracket to the power steering pump. Detach the bracket's screw.


3. Check the tightening torque on the delivery line connection to the pump.

Is the torque greater than 18 Nm?

YES , the car is OK.

- Tighten the screw for the bracket.

- Fit the right-hand headlamp, see WIS - 3. Electrical System - Lighting and signalling systems - Adjustment/Replacement - Headlamps.

NO , proceed to step 4.

4. Fit the hose pinch-off pliers 30 07 739 to the hose from the power steering fluid reservoir. Remove the delivery line from the pump. Place a rag under the pump to collect spilled oil.


5. Remove the O-ring and fit the new O-ring on the delivery line connection, grease the O-ring with Vaseline.

6. Fit the delivery line connection to the power steering pump as far as possible manually, in order to engage the pipe.


6.a. Insert the screw on the bracket.

6.b. Tighten the delivery line connection.

Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 lbf ft)

6.c. Tighten the screw on the bracket.

7. Remove the hose pinch-off pliers.

8. Fit the right-hand headlamp, see WIS - 3. Electrical System - Lighting and signalling systems - Adjustment/Replacement - Headlamps.

9. Fill with power steering fluid, see WIS - 6. Steering assembly -Power steering system - Adjustment/Replacement - Bleeding the power steering system.

10. Check that the power steering system is sealed.
