To remove



1. Raise the car and remove the rear wheel on the side in question.

2. Unbolt the transverse link from the longitudinal link and place a spacer between the upper and lower transverse links.

3. Press the brake pistons back using a pair of slip joint pliers.

4. Remove the brake line bracket from the longitudinal link.

5. Undo the two brake caliper retaining bolts. Hang up the brake caliper by means of a cable tie.


6. Unplug the ABS sensor's connector.

7. Remove the wheel hub's four retaining nuts.


8. Unhook the handbrake's return spring and cable. Remove the hub with brake disc.

9. Press out the ball joint using Press tool 89 96 761 with tool KM-906 (KM-906-70, KM-906-61 KM-906-62).



To fit



1. Press in the ball joint using Press tool 89 96 761 with tool KM-906 (KM-906-70, KM-906-63 KM-906-64).

2. Use a wire brush to clean the mating surface for the rear wheel hub.

3. Lift up the wheel hub with brake disc and hook the handbrake cable and return spring in place.


4. Fit the wheel hub on the backplate and secure both to the longitudinal link, using new nuts. Tighten the nuts alternately.

Tightening torque 50 Nm +30° (40 lbf ft +30°).

5. Plug in the ABS sensor's connector.


6. Fit the brake caliper, apply thread locking adhesive to the retaining bolts and tighten them.

7. Refit the brake line bracket on the longitudinal link.

8. Tighten the bolt securing the transverse link to the longitudinal link.


Tightening torque 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°) .

9. Fit the wheel. See Wheels .

Tightening torques

aluminium rim 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

pressed steel rim 50 Nm +2x90°, max. 110 Nm (37 lbf ft +2x90°, max. 81 lbf ft)

Lower the car to the floor.

10. Depress the brake pedal to press out the pistons in the brake calipers.
