To remove |
1. |
Raise the car.

2. |
Remove the torque arm.
|
3. |
Remove the ground cable.
|
4. |
Remove the torque arm bracket.
|
5. |
Place an oil pan under the transmission and remove the oil cooler hoses. Plug the holes and bend the hoses aside.

6. |
Remove the bolts from the valve housing cover.
|
7. |
Use a rubber mallet to knock the cover loose.

To fit |

Clean the inside of the valve housing cover. Remove all gasket remains from the contact surfaces of the cover and gearcase. Clean the sealing surfaces with cleaner 30 02 599.

Fit the oil cooler hoses. The hoses should be horizontal so that they do not chafe against the subframe. Use new seals greased with petroleum jelly.
Tightening torque 27 Nm (20 lbf ft) |
4. |
Fit the torque arm bracket.
Tightening torque for gearbox up to and including Vehicle Identification Number 73514478: 47 Nm (34 lbf ft) Tightening torque for gearbox from and including Vehicle Identification Number 73514479: 38 Nm (28 lbf ft) |
5. |
Connect the ground cable and fit the torque arm. Tighten the bolt on the subframe, centre the rubber pad and tighten the bolt on the bracket.

Lower the car to the floor.

Fill with transmission fluid to the correct level. Refer to
Weight, fluid capacity and grade of fluid
|

Run the transmission until warm then check the fluid level and the function of the transmission as described under
Automatic transmission, fluid level
.
