Read the instructions below then start the fault diagnostic procedure.

Symptom: CHECK ENGINE. Limited engine torque.

Fault symptoms

•	CHECK ENGINE.

•	Limited engine torque.

On-Board Diagnostics

Type of diagnosis:

-	Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.

Enable criteria:

-	Engine running. Main relay voltage exceeding 11V. Coolant temperature exceeding 60 °C.

Fault criteria:

-	Knock voltage below 0.25V when spark produced during 25 combustions.

Dependents:

-	P0116, P0117 and P0118.

System reaction to a fault:

-	Knock signal set to 5V. In this way knock detection will take place continuously on all cylinders when under high load.

OK report:

-	Enable criteria fulfilled. Fault criteria not fulfilled within 120 s.

Diagnostic help

Fault diagnosis concerns electrical fault in connecting leads or in the ignition discharge module.

Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:

•	Knock sensor value, unit V.

Note

The knock sensor function is an internal function in the ignition discharge module, there are no external sensors.

Checking the wiring

Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short circuits. Observe the multimeter, diagnostic tool or test lamp during the check.
