Trip computer functions

External temperature, SID 1 and 2


The current external temperature is shown on the main instrument unit information display when the Temp function is selected or if the temperature warning function has been activated so that the external temperature is displayed automatically. Information about the external temperature is supplied by a sensor in the front spoiler.

A temperature warning function is built into the SID control module and works as follows:

If the temperature falls from a higher temperature to +3°C (37°F) or rises from a lower temperature to -3°C(26°F), the ambient temperature is automatically shown on the display irrespective of which display the SID control module is set to.

This display remains until another function is selected.

To avoid the effect of radiant heat, the temperature sensor reading is updated differently depending on whether the ambient temperature is rising or falling and it is speed-dependent.

The reading is updated as follows:


+1°C (1.8°F) every 6 minutes at speeds below 30 km/h.

+1°C (1.8°F) every 30 seconds at speeds above 30 km/h.

-1°C(1.8°F) every 2.5 seconds at all speeds.





If the engine is switched off the current external temperature is stored in the SID control module. The control module also calculates the length of time the engine has been switched off. When the ignition is switched on again the main instrument unit information display will show the stored temperature from ignition OFF if the elapsed time is:


less than 12 minutes.


If the engine has been turned off for more than 12 minutes, the current ambient temperature reading from the sensor is shown.

Information on the ambient temperature is sent as bus information, unit °C/°F (-40 to +50°C), (-40 to 122°F).

D.T.E. (distance to empty). SID 2


To calculate how long the car will run with the fuel quantity left in the tank, the SID control module uses information about:


Fuel level, unit litres (bus information from MIU).

Odometer reading, unit km (bus information from MIU).

Fuel consumed since start, unit ml (bus information from engine control module).

Coolant temperature, unit °C (bus information from engine control module).


The calculated value is updated every 16 seconds. To avoid rapid changes in the value, no update is carried out when starting from cold or if car speed is below 5 km/h.

When the function is zeroed “xxx” km (miles) is shown on the main instrument unit information display, the journey distance (D.T.E) which is then shown is calculated internally using the value of 1 l/10 km.

Speed Ø (average speed), SID 2


The average speed is calculated using:


Time information from the internal clock.

Odometer reading, unit km, miles (bus information from MIU).


The display range is 0 to 250 km/h (0-155 mph) and the reading is updated every 4 seconds from the previous reset.

On zeroing, all parameters are set to 0, “- - -” km/h (miles/h) appears on the display. When a distance of 100 m has been covered, a new figure will be shown.

Calculations in SID 2.

The SID control module calculates the relationships between Dist, Arriv and Speed Ø. The value of Dist must be greater than 0 for the calculations to be performed.

When the desired average speed is entered in Speed Ø, the control module presents the calculated arrival time in Arriv.

If the calculation is made when the car is running, the calculated value is replaced by the correct figure after 10 seconds. If the calculation is made with the car stationary, the calculated value is replaced by the correct figure as soon as the car is driven.

Fuel Ø (average fuel consumption), SID 2


The average fuel consumption is calculated using the following information:


Fuel consumed since start, unit ml (bus information from engine control module).

Odometer reading, unit km, miles (bus information from MIU).


The display range is 0 to 99.9 litres/100 km, MPG Imp or MPG.

The calculated value is updated every 4 seconds after the latest manual memory reset. Every 10 minutes both the distance travelled and the fuel consumption are divided by 2 so that the average value is not affected too much by "old" consumption.

On zeroing, both parameters are set to 0, “- - -” appears on the display. When a distance of 100 m has been covered, a new figure will be shown.


Dist (distance to destination). SID 2


The distance to destination is calculated using information on:


Odometer reading, unit km, miles (bus information from MIU).


The display range is 0 to 9999 km or miles. When the SID control module has been programmed with a value, a count-down begins using the actual distance covered.

If no distance has been given then the distance travelled since the last time SID was zeroed is displayed. Zeroing with the CLR button does not affect the value of distance to destination which has been programmed in.

Calculations

The SID calculates the relationships between Dist, Arriv and Speed Ø. The value of Dist must be greater than 0 for the calculations to be performed.

When the desired average speed is entered in Speed Ø, the SID presents the calculated arrival time in Arriv.

If the calculation is made when the car is running, the calculated value is replaced by the correct figure after 10 seconds. If the calculation is made with the car stationary, the calculated value is replaced by the correct figure as soon as the car is driven.

Arriv (arrival time), SID 2


The arrival time is calculated from information on:


Current time (internal SID function)

Programmed value under Dist.

Speed, unit km/h, mph (bus information from MIU).


The display range is from the present time up to 23 hours and 59 minutes ahead, updated every second.

When Dist is 0 then the current time will be shown on the main instrument unit information display.

Zeroing with the CLR button does not affect a time of arrival value that has been programmed or calculated.

Calculations

The SID calculates the relationships between Dist, Arriv and Speed Ø. The value of Dist must be greater than 0 for the calculations to be performed.

When an arrival time is then entered under Arriv, the SID displays the calculated average speed. Alternatively, if the desired average speed is entered under Speed Ø, the SID displays the estimated arrival time under Arriv.

If the calculation is made when the car is running, the calculated value is replaced by the correct figure after 10 seconds. If the calculation is made with the car stationary, the calculated value is replaced by the correct figure as soon as the car is driven.

Alarm (time alarm), SID 2


The alarm function is performed on information from:


Current time (clock).

Programmed alarm time.


If the Alarm function is activated a clock symbol is displayed. The alarm sounds for one minute or until it is switched off with the CLR button.

The set values are retained when the ignition is OFF.

Speed W. (speed warning), SID 2


Speed warning uses information on:


Speed, unit km/h, mph (bus information from MIU).

Programmed speed for warning


It is possible to programme a speed warning between 0 and 250 km/h (0-155 mph). If the car exceeds the programmed speed then an acoustic signal sounds every 3 seconds and the text message “Speed W.” is shown on the main instrument unit information display.

Speed warning ME, SID 1 and 2

In the ME market, all cars are programmed with a speed warning which is activated when car speed exceeds 120 km/h. This function applies to both SID 1 and SID 2. For SID 2, this means that the normal Speed W (speed warning) can only be programmed up to 120 km/h.

The function can be programmed ON/OFF using the diagnostic tool.
