General |
The car's theft protection consists of two different functions: immobilising, which is standard on all cars and a theft alarm, which is an optional accessory. The theft protection functions are controlled by TWICE.
Immobilisation |
The immobilisation function prevents the car from starting if other than the correct key is used. The fuel supply is cut off and the starter motor relay is blocked. There is a transponder in the key with a unique identification code that is registered by the receiver unit. The receiver unit is located by the ignition switch.
The receiver unit which is connected to TWICE, sends the code to TWICE which is programmed to recognise the car's keys. If the correct key is inserted in the ignition switch (in switch position ON) starting of the engine is facilitated. If a transponder not belonging to the car or a defective transponder is used, “KEY NOT ACCEPTED” is shown on the SID display.
Should there be a fault in the receiver unit or the transponder, the remote control unit can be used to mobilise the car. Mobilisation is effected if a button on the remote control is depressed after the ignition switch has been turned to the ON position.
Anti-theft alarm |
The car can be equipped with an anti-theft alarm during production or the alarm may be fitted as an accessory.
The anti-theft alarm is enabled/disabled using the remote control. In certain markets this function can also be controlled with the key in the driver's door or boot lid/tailgate (disabling). If the anti-theft alarm is enabled and the car key is inserted into the ignition switch and turned, the alarm is disabled once the correct identification code from the transponder is received.

The behaviour of the anti-theft alarm varies according to the market.
Door switches
The door switches are mounted in the frame of each door and are grounded with the switch mounting screw via the body frame. The switches are fed a pulse width modulated voltage (approx. 3.5%) via a 1 kohm pull-up resistor in TWICE. If a door is opened the switch contact is made and the input of the control module is grounded.Twice transmits the position of each door on the bus. This information is used by the anti-theft alarm and also by DICE for interior lighting.
Boot/luggage compartment switch
The boot/luggage compartment switch is mounted on the boot-lid/tailgate lock. The switch is fed a pulse-width modulated voltage (approx. 3.5%) via a 1 kohm pull-up resistor in TWICE. If the boot-lid/tailgate is opened the switch contact is made and the input of the control module is grounded.TWICE transmits the position of the boot-lid/tailgate on the bus. This information is used by the anti-theft alarm and also by DICE for the boot/luggage compartment lighting.
Key switch boot/luggage compartment alarm disarming
The key switch is fitted adjacent to the boot-lid/tailgate and is grounded by contact with the body frame. The switch is fed a pulse-width modulated voltage (approx. 3.5%) via a 1 kohm pull-up resistor in TWICE. If the key is turned in the lock, the switch contact is made and the input of the control module is grounded. The boot/luggage compartment alarm function is disabled.Bonnet switch
The bonnet switch is fitted in the engine compartment onto the rear LH edge of the bonnet opening. The switch is fed a pulse-width modulated voltage (approx. 3.5%) via a 1 kohm pull-up resistor in TWICE. If the bonnet is opened, the switch contact is made and the input of the control module is grounded.TWICE uses the bonnet switch to sound the anti-theft alarm if the bonnet is opened and the alarm is enabled.
Glass breakage sensor (4D)
The glass breakage sensor is placed in the rear roof lamp and is supplied with voltage by TWICE.The glass breakage sensor reacts to the sound of breaking glass. The sensor independently decides whether or not glass has been broken.
The sensor can be disconnected by pressing the CLEAR button when the car key is not in the ignition switch.
Glass breakage sensor (5D)
In the 5D version there are two glass breakage sensors, forward and rear. The forward sensor, which is the master sensor, is located in the centre roof lamp and is directly connected to TWICE. The rear sensor, which is the slave sensor, is located in the luggage compartment roof lamp and is only connected to the master sensor.The glass breakage sensors react to the sound of breaking glass. The forward sensor independently decides whether or not glass has been broken.
The sensors can be disconnected by pressing the CLEAR button when the car key is not in the ignition switch.
Tilt sensor
The tilt sensor is placed under the RH front seat and is supplied with a voltage by TWICE.The sensor reacts to tilting of the car. It sounds the alarm if the car is raised on one side to such an extent that a wheel is about to lift off the ground.
The alarm does not react if the car, for example, is blown by a strong wind. The sensor should however be disabled during boat transport when it is possible that the alarm could be set off.
The sensor can be disconnected by pressing the CLEAR button when the car key is not in the ignition switch
Siren
The siren is fitted at the front of the front LH wheel housing and has two piezo-electric sound generators. Batteries are incorporated to allow the siren to be sounded even if the normal battery voltage is low or if someone cuts the siren cables.Horn (certain markets from and including chassis No. 43013162)
Two trumpet-type horns are placed behind the grille under the radiator crossmember.Direction indicators
The car's direction indicators are activated by DICE using bus information from TWICE.LED
The LED is located on top of the instrument panel and is supplied with a voltage by TWICE.The LED is used to indicated the status of the theft protection:

A double blink indicates that the car is immobilised.

A blink every 3 seconds indicates that the car anti-theft alarm is enabled.
|
- |
A rapid blinking during the delay time indicates that a door or boot/tailgate is open.
|
- |
Continuous illumination during the delay time indicates that everything is correct.
|
Remote control |
The remote control is used to operate the car's central locking system and also to enable or disable the anti theft alarm.
The remote control is fitted with three buttons which have the following functions:

Lock/enabling of anti-theft alarm

Unlock/disabling anti-theft alarm

Unlock boot/tailgate or disabling of the boot/luggage compartment alarm function.

If a button on the remote control is depressed, a code is transmitted which is registered by the receiver. The receiver is connected to TWICE which carries out the requested function.
