Longitudinal link

To remove


1. Raise the car and remove the wheel.

2. Press the brake piston back using a pair of slip joint pliers.


3. Remove the brake caliper and hang it up.

4. Remove the air deflector.


5. Remove the bolt securing the handbrake cable bracket.

6. Unplug the connector from the wheel sensors

7. Detach the wheel sensor cable from the holder.

8. Remove the nuts from the wheel sensor cable mounting and the brake pipe.

9. Remove the damper's lower retaining bolt.


10. Remove the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.

11. Unhook the handbrake cable's return spring and remove the cable.

12. Remove the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.

13. Remove the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.

14. Remove the bolts securing the longitudinal link to the car body and lower away the link with hub and brake disc.


15. Remove the rear wheel hub with disc back plate from the longitudinal link (4 nuts).


16. Clamp on 89 96 753 Assembly fixture, A-bracket, rear axle (KM-901) as illustrated.


17. Remove the nut and bolt from the longitudinal link's bush and remove the tool.

18. Remove the body bracket from the longitudinal link bush.


To fit



1. Fit the bush in the longitudinal link and the ball joints in the longitudinal link.

2. Fit the body bracket back in place on the longitudinal link's bush.

3. Clamp on 89 96 753 Assembly fixture, A-bracket, rear axle (KM-901) as illustrated.

4. Tighten the nut and bolt retaining the body bracket.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°)

5. Use a steel wire brush to clean the wheel hub contact surface and spacer.

6. Fit the wheel hub on the longitudinal link, using new nuts. Tighten the nuts alternately.

Tightening torque: 50 Nm +30° (40 lbf ft +30°)


7. Lift up the longitudinal link to the body and insert the bolts.

Secure the mounting using 89 96 795 Fixing tool and tighten the bolts.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +30° (66 lbf ft +30°)


8. Tighten the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°)


9. Tighten the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque: 50 Nm (40 lbf ft)

10. Hook the handbrake cable on and refit the return spring.

11. Tighten the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +60° (66 lbf ft +60°)

12. Position the bottom damper mounting on the rear axle. Insert the bolt. Raise the steering swivel member with a column jack to about the same height as when the car is standing on its wheels. Tighten the bolt.

Tightening torque 190 Nm (140 lbf ft)

13. Fit the brake caliper. Use 74 96 268 Thread locking adhesive on the bolts.

Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 lbf ft)


14. Fit the mounting for the wheel sensor and the brake pipe.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)


15. Fit the wheel sensor cable into the mounting.

16. Plug in the wheel sensor connector.

17. Fit the handbrake cable bracket.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 lbf ft)

18. Fit the air deflector.

19. Fit the wheel .

Tightening torques

aluminium rim 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

pressed steel rim 50 Nm +2x90°, max. 110 Nm (37 lbf ft +2x90°, max. 81 lbf ft)

Lower the car to the floor.

20. Depress the brake pedal to press out the piston in the brake caliper.

21. Adjust the toe angles .
