Tyre pressure monitoring, TPMS, brief description

Tyre pressure monitoring, TPMS, brief description

Warning

The system is designed as an aid to the driver. The driver is always responsible for ensuring that the tyres have the right pressure.

For the best possible safety, economy and comfort, tyre pressure should be checked regularly, even if the tyre pressure monitoring system has not issued an alarm.

Function

Tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS) reminds the driver of low tyre pressure in one or more tyres.

Tyre pressure monitoring is automatic and monitors the car's tyre pressures in all four wheels. The system is activated when the speed exceeds 20 km/h.

Four tyre pressure sensors measure the tyre pressure and transmit the pressure values via radio waves to the control module which is located in the luggage compartment.

The tyre pressure sensor is fitted in the wheel rim and functions as valve, sensor and transmitter.

The control module listens to the information during the first few minutes in order to ascertain the position of each tyre pressure sensor. The system is self-programming, which means that it is possible to swap around the wheels without the need to recalibrate the control module.

The information on incorrect tyre pressure is sent on the I-bus. The message is shown as a warning or alarm message in the main instrument unit's display.
