To remove |

Place the car on a lift.

Drain the refrigerant from the A/C system. See
Draining and filling of refrigerant

3. |
Unplug the connector to the compressor located on the structure/console behind the right-hand headlamp.
|
4. |
Relieve the tension on the multigroove V-belt by compressing and locking the belt tensioner with a 3 mm Allen key.
|
5. |
Disconnect the inlet hose with mass air flow sensor without unplugging the connector and move it to one side.
|
6. |
Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold.
|
7. |
Loosen and move the by-pass pipe and valve out of the way.
|
9. |
Remove the fan cowling, 2 bolts and 2 locating grooves.
|
10. |
Disconnect and fold away the pressure hose from the turbo.
|
11. |
Loosen the low-pressure pipe from the compressor and push it aside. Plug the openings.
|
12. |
Loosen the high-pressure pipe from the compressor and push it aside. Plug the openings.
|
13. |
Raise the car and remove the air shields. Remove the multigroove V-belt from the compressor.
|
14. |
Unscrew the 3 compressor retaining screws, start with the top screw.
|
15. |
Lift off the compressor from the mounting hook.

To fit |

Adjust the oil level in the compressor. See

2. |
Hang the compressor on the mounting hook.
|
3. |
Screw on the compressor with retaining screws.
Tightening torque, M8: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft) Tightening torque, M10, 40 Nm (30 lbf ft) |
4. |
Fit the multigroove V-belt on the pulley and release the belt tensioner. Check that it is positioned correctly.
Mount the air shields and lower the car. |
5. |
Lubricate and fit the new O-rings to the compressor pipes.

6. |
Connect the high-pressure pipe to the compressor, 1 bolt.
Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft) |
7. |
Connect the low-pressure pipe to the compressor, 1 bolt.
Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft) |
8. |
Connect the pressure hose to the turbo.

9. |
Fit the fan cowling, 2 locating grooves and 2 bolts.
|
10. |
Put back the hose brackets and plug in the radiator fan connectors on the fan cowling.
Cars with automatic transmission: Connect the oil cooler hose on the bottom of the fan cowling. |
11. |
Plug in the connector for the compressor and press it into the holder on the structure/console behind the right-hand headlamp.
|
12. |
Fit the by-pass pipe and valve.
|
13. |
Fit the heat shield.
|
14. |
Fit the inlet hose and mass air flow sensor.
|
15. |
Evacuate the A/C system and fill with R134a refrigerant. See

Running in the compressor to distribute the compressor oil in the system:

Activate the A/C and let it run for at least 2 minutes at engine speed <1500 rpm.
|
