P0119
Read the instructions below then
start the fault diagnostic procedure.
Symptom: CHECK ENGINE.
A/C not working.
Radiator fan runs continuously when ignition is ON.
Temperature gauge reading incorrect.
Possible starting problem or misfiring before diagnostic trouble code is generated.
Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit. Intermittent Open / Short.

On-Board Diagnostics
Type of diagnosis:
-
|
Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.
|
Enable criteria:
-
|
General conditions for this trouble code: Atmospheric pressure must exceed 72 kPa and the engine coolant and intake air temperature must exceed -7°C.
|
-
|
Crankshaft rotating. Temperature is read every second. For 5 consecutive readings, the value does not deviate more than 5°C from the previous reading.
|
Fault criteria:
-
|
The mean value of the difference between the 5 readings exceeds 10°C.
|
Dependents:
System reaction to a fault
:
-
|
A substitute value is continually calculated as follows:
Switches to a limp-home temperature, which goes up to max. 106°C.
|
OK report:
-
|
Enable criteria fulfilled without any faults being reported.
|
Fault handling:
(See section
Fault handling III, other emission-related components and functions
for more information.)
Diagnostic help
Fault diagnosis concerns an electrical fault in connecting leads or in the sensor.
Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:
•
|
Diagnostic status for the diagnosis.
|
•
|
Temperature sensor reading, in °C.
|
See also description of read value under
"Read Values" menu
for more information.
Check the wiring
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
