Reading and mirror lighting

Reading and mirror lighting

Reading and mirror lights (make-up mirrors) are turned on and off with their individual switches. The power for the various lamps is supplied through DICE, which thus controls the operation. The lighting operates independently of the light switch (53), which controls the functionality of the interior lighting.

The reading and mirror lights can always be switched on and off when the ignition switch is in position ON (+15 or +54).

The reading and mirror lights can also be switched on when the ignition is in the OFF position (or the key has been removed). In this case the lighting will remain on for 20 minutes and then switch off automatically.

To switch reading and mirror lighting on after 20 minutes the ignition key must turned to the ON position (and back), or a door must be opened/closed, or alternatively closed/opened.

The lighting goes out while the engine is started (starter motor cranks). However, it does not stay off for more than 20 seconds.

So as not to burden the battery more than is necessary, DICE switches the reading and mirror lights off when the starter motor is activated. When the ignition switch reverts from the ST position to ON, DICE switches the lighting on again. For safety reasons the shut-off time is maximized to 20 seconds, so that the lighting will function even if +54 is lacking in the event of a fault.

Voltage +30 for the reading and mirror lighting is always fed to DICE. From pin 70 on the control module the power goes out to the lamps (50F, 50C, 359RH and 359LH). The lights are turned on using their own individual switches.

Diagnosis

The output is provided with overload protection which shuts it off in the event of an excessive load. When this occurs, diagnostic trouble code B1220 will be generated.

DTCs are not generated if the voltage is below 11 V or during diagnostic communication.

Note

Should a fault occur in the interior lighting, diagnostic trouble code B1220 may be generated (instead of the normal B1215), since the roof lighting (50F) is not electrically isolated from the reading and mirror lights.
