Dust excluder, steering gear

Raise the car. If a jack is used, safety stands should be placed under the car.
Diesel
: Remove the lower engine cover.
|

|
Slacken the lock nut.
|
4.
|
Remove the nut securing the track-rod end to the steering swivel member.
|
6.
|
Unscrew the track-rod end from the track rod, counting the number of turns, and undo the nut.

7.
|
Used compressed air to blow the dust excluder clean. Remove the clips and remove the dust excluder.

Clean the track rod and ball joint as necessary and lubricate with lithium grease such as Shell EP B2 Code 71303, Shell Retinax A or the equivalent.

2.
|
Refit the dust excluder on the track rod and steering gear housing. Fit new clips use pliers 30 16 235 to secure them.

3.
|
Fit the nut, and screw in the track-rod end as per the counted number of turns.
Note
|
The left and right track-rod ends are different. The track-rod ends should curve slightly backwards when fitted. Markings: LH = left-hand side, RH = right-hand side.

4.
|
Bolt the track-rod end to the steering swivel member.
Tightening torque 35 Nm (26 lbf ft)
|
5.
|
Tighten the track-rod end's lock nut.
Tightening torque 70 Nm (55 lbf ft)
|
6.
|
Diesel:
Fit the lower engine cover.

.
Lower the car to the floor.
