Evaporator

Evaporator

The evaporator is located in the climate unit. It consists of a heat exchanger (cabin air/refrigerant), through which the refrigerant flows in a pipe system with cooling fins.

The incoming refrigerant expands and boils (evaporates) in the evaporator pipe system and absorbs heat from the pipes and cooling fins. The cooling fins are heated in turn by the incoming/recirculated cabin air. The incoming cabin air is then cooled to approx. 5-10°C and can cool the cabin to the desired temperature.

When the heat is absorbed, condensation forms on the evaporator pipes and cooling fins. This condensation is drained away through two drain hoses under the car. Rather large amounts of water can collect under a parked car in certain climate conditions.
