Function checks

Road testing is an important part of the service programme. Carry out the function checks as described below.


Lighting: Check the front and rear lights, direction indicators, brake lights, high-level brake light, rear fog light and number plate illumination.

Ignition switch: Check the park brake shift lock on automatic transmission vehicles.

Engine: Check function and noise level. Check that the engine's acceleration is normal.

Clutch: Check disengagement and engagement position.

Gearbox (manual): Check function and noise level.

Gearbox (automatic): Check starting interlock, i.e. that the engine can only be started with the gear selector in position P and N, noise level, and shifting performance.

Wheels: Check wheel balance and wheel roundness.

Steering assembly: Check the steering wheel position, directional stability and operation of the power steering system.

Instruments and indicator lamps: Check the function of the instruments and indicator lamps.

Brakes: Check the foot brake, brake servo and handbrake (brake test bench if required).

Cruise control: Check the function.

Heating and ventilation unit: Check the function of the ventilation unit and A/C system as well as the controls. When the outside temperature does not allow for A/C activation, perform the check indoors.

Wiper and washer function: Check the washer jet pattern and wiper operation on the windscreen.

Check that the clock shows the right time.

Check the horn.


Think of the customer's expectations!

Wipe off the steering wheel and the gear lever and make sure that there is no other trace of the workshop visit.

Reset the driver's seat if its settings have been changed.
