Engine Block Assemble



1. Install the cylinder block-to-cylinder head alignment dowels.


2. Install the NEW front oil gallery expansion plug.


3. Ensure the NEW front oil gallery expansion plug is installed to the proper depth.

4. Install the cylinder block-to-transmission alignment dowels.


5. Apply the RTV sealant, or equivalent on the NEW coolant expansion plugs. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended sealant.


6. Install the NEW coolant expansion plugs.

7. Ensure the NEW coolant expansion plugs are installed to the proper depth.

8. Apply thread sealant or equivalent on the threads of the M20 left side oil gallery threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended sealant.


9. Install the M20 left side oil gallery threaded plug.

10. Refer to Fastener Caution .

Tighten the M20 left side oil gallery threaded plug to 31 Nm (23 lb ft) .

11. Apply thread sealant or equivalent on the threads of the M14 left side coolant drain threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended sealant.


12. Install the M14 left side coolant drain threaded plug.

13. Tighten the M14 left side coolant outlet threaded plug to 31 Nm (23 lb ft) .

14. Apply thread sealant or equivalent on the threads of the M14 rear oil gallery threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended sealant.


15. Install the M14 rear oil gallery threaded plug.

16. Tighten the M14 rear oil gallery threaded plug to 31 Nm (23 lb ft) .

17. Apply thread sealant or equivalent on the threads of the M14 right side coolant drain threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended sealant.


18. Install the M14 right side coolant drain threaded plug.

19. Tighten the M14 right side coolant outlet threaded plug to 31 Nm (23 lb ft) .

20. Apply thread sealant or equivalent on the threads of the M14 right side oil gallery threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended sealant.


21. Install the M14 right side oil gallery threaded plug.

22. Tighten the M14 left side oil gallery threaded plug to 31 Nm (23 lb ft) .

23. Install the cylinder block-to-oil pan alignment dowels.


24. Install the NEW right front oil pan rail oil gallery expansion plug.


25. Ensure the NEW right front oil pan rail oil gallery expansion plug is installed to the proper depth.

26. Install the oil jets.


27. Install the oil jet bolts.

28. Tighten the oil jet screws to 10 Nm (89 lb in) .

29. Install the NEW crankshaft position sensor O-ring, if damaged.


30. Install the crankshaft position sensor.


31. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolt.

32. Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in) .

33. Install the left knock sensor to the cylinder block, as shown.


34. Install the left knock sensor bolt.

35. Tighten the left-hand knock sensor screw to 23 Nm (17 lb ft) .

36. Ensure proper sensor orientation.

37. Install the right knock sensor to the cylinder block, as shown.


38. Install the right knock sensor bolt.

39. Tighten the right-hand knock sensor screw to 23 Nm (17 lb ft) .

40. Ensure proper sensor orientation.

41. Install the block heater cartridge, if equipped.
