Exhaust Camshaft and Valve Lifter Replacement

Removal Procedure


1. Remove the timing chain guide - upper. Refer to Timing Chain Guide Replacement - Upper .

2. Release the camshaft timing chain. Refer to Primary Timing Chain Replacement .

3. Remove the power brake booster pump. Refer to Power Brake Booster Pump Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Power Brake Booster Pump Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

4. Remove the camshaft position actuator - exhaust. Refer to Camshaft Position Exhaust Actuator Replacement .

5. Remove the 12 fasteners (1) from the camshaft bearing caps (2).


6. Remove with caution the camshaft bearing cap (2) from the cylinder head.

7. Remove the exhaust camshaft (1).


8. Remove the valve lifter (2).


Installation Procedure


1. Install the valve lifter (1).

Employ the valve lifter with engine oil


2. Install the exhaust camshaft (2).

Employ the camshaft with engine oil

3. Install the camshaft bearing caps (1) and camshaft bearing cap fasteners (2). Tighten the fasteners to 10 Nm (89 lb in) .


4. Install the camshaft position actuator - exhaust. Refer to Camshaft Position Exhaust Actuator Replacement .

5. Install the camshaft timing chain. Refer to Primary Timing Chain Replacement .

6. Install the power brake booster pump. Refer to Power Brake Booster Pump Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Power Brake Booster Pump Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

7. Install the timing chain guide - upper. Refer to Timing Chain Guide Replacement - Upper .
