Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LLU/A16LET)

/ 9-5 (9650) / 2011 / 2. Engine / Cooling system / Adjustment/replacement / Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LLU/A16LET)

Removal Procedure

1.	Remove the charge air cooler outlet air hose fastener (1).

2.	Disconnect the electrical connector from the turbocharger pressure sensor.

3.	Remove both fasteners (2, 3) of the charge air cooler outlet air hose.

4.	Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LAU/A28NER) Cooling System Draining and Filling (LBS/A20DTH) Cooling System Draining and Filling (LHU/A20NFT) .

5.	Remove the fastener (4) from the radiator inlet hose (3).

6.	Remove the radiator inlet hose from the thermostat housing (5).

7.	Remove the 4 fasteners (4) and the coolant thermostat socket (3).

8.	Remove the engine coolant thermostat (1).

9.	Remove the engine coolant thermostat seal (2).

10.	Remove heater outlet hose from the heater. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (Diesel) Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LLU/A16LET) Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

11.	Remove heater inlet hose from the heater. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (Diesel) Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LLU/A16LET) Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

12.	Disconnect the electrical connector of the engine coolant temperature sensor. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Thermostat Housing) Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Radiator) .

13.	Remove the air bleeding hose.

14.	Remove the engine oil cooler inlet pipe from the engine coolant thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Pipe Replacement (A28NER/LAU) Engine Oil Cooler Pipe Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

15.	Remove the fastener (4) of the wiring harness bracket (1) from the thermostat housing.

16.	Remove the 4 fasteners (3) of the thermostat housing (2).

Disassemble

1.	Place engine coolant thermostat housing in a vice.

2.	Remove the temperature sensor. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Thermostat Housing) Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Radiator) .

3.	Remove the heater inlet hose and the heater outlet hose from the thermostat housing.

Assemble

1.	Install the heater inlet hose and the heater outlet hose to the NEW thermostat housing.

2.	Install the temperature sensor. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Thermostat Housing) Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Radiator) .

3.	Remove the temperature sensor from the vice.

Installation Procedure

1.	Clean the sealing surface.

2.	Install a NEW gasket.

3.	Refer to Fastener Caution . Install the engine coolant thermostat housing (2).

4.	Install the 4 fasteners (3) of the thermostat housing and tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb in) .

5.	Install heater inlet hose to the heater. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (Diesel) Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LLU/A16LET) Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

6.	Install heater outlet hose to the heater. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (Diesel) Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LLU/A16LET) Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

7.	Install the engine oil cooler inlet pipe to the engine coolant thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Pipe Replacement (A28NER/LAU) Engine Oil Cooler Pipe Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

8.	Install the air bleeding hose.

9.	Connect the electrical connector of the engine coolant temperature sensor. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Thermostat Housing) Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement (Radiator) .

10.	Install the engine coolant thermostat (1).

11.	Install a NEW engine coolant thermostat seal (2).

12.	Install the 4 fasteners (4) and the coolant thermostat socket (3).

13.	Install the fastener of the wiring harness bracket to the thermostat housing.

14.	Install the radiator inlet hose to the thermostat housing (5).

15.	Install the fastener (4) to the radiator inlet hose (3).

16.	Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LAU/A28NER) Cooling System Draining and Filling (LBS/A20DTH) Cooling System Draining and Filling (LHU/A20NFT) .

17.	Install both fasteners (2, 3) of the charge air cooler outlet air hose.

18.	Connect the electrical connector from the turbocharger pressure sensor.

19.	Install the charge air cooler outlet air hose fastener (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in) .
