Fuel Tank Replacement

Fuel Tank Replacement

Warning

Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.



Preliminary Procedure

1. Remove the battery negative terminal connection. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

2. Remove the muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LAU/A28NER) Exhaust Muffler Replacement (Spare part) Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LBY/A20DTR) Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LBS/A20DTH) Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LHU/A20NFT, LLU/A16LET) .

3. If equipped, remove the fuel tank protector. Refer to Underbody Rear Air Deflector Replacement .

4. Release the electrical connectors (Qty 2).

Fuel Tank Strap Fastener (Qty: 2)

Refer to Fastener Caution .

Tighten

20 Nm (15 lb ft)

Fuel Tank Strap (Qty: 2)

Procedure

Move the fuel tank straps down and out of the way.

Fuel Tank Filler Hose


Procedure

1. Release the retainer.

2. Pull the fuel tank filler hose away from the fuel tank.

Fuel Tank Filler Hose Breather Hose

Procedure

Pull the fuel tank filler hose breather hose away from the fuel tank.

Fuel Filter Feed and Return Pipe

Procedure

Release the fuel pump feed and return pipes and move to one side.

Fuel Filter Retaining Ring


Procedure

1. Release the fuel pump retaining ring.

2. Lift out the retaining ring to access the fuel pump.

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

The fuel pump

Warning

Do not run the fuel pump unless it is submerged in fuel. Failure to do so could damage the pump.

Fuel Tank

Warning

Use extreme care when lowering the fuel tank. The fuel sender is made of plastic. Lowering the fuel tank may damage the fuel sender.
