Transmission Fluid Replacement

Draining Procedure

Note
The fluid check bolt at the front of the transmission may not be opened.

The transmission fluid that is drained during the Pre-Delivery Inspection may be re-used. New transmission fluid must be used during service work.

The transmission fluid must be brought up to operating temperature before draining.



1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

2. If necessary, remove the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .

3. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (Diesel) Battery Tray Replacement (LHU/A20NFT) .

4. Clean away all dirt and debris from the transmission fluid drain fastener area.


5. Position an appropriate container under the transmission.

6. Remove the transmission fluid drain fastener (1).

7. Allow the transmission fluid to drain into the container.

8. Refer to Fastener Caution .

Install a new transmission fluid drain plug and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft) .

9. Remove the container used to catch the used transmission fluid from under the vehicle.


Filling Procedure


1. Clean away all dirt and debris from the transmission fluid fill fastener area.


2. Remove the transmission fluid fill fastener (1).

3. Fill the transmission to just below the bottom of the fill fastener hole with the recommended fluid. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations and Approximate Fluid Capacities .

The M32 transmission requires 2.2 liters transmission fluid.

Note

If a new transmission is installed, it must be filled with 1.7 liters of transmission fluid because the new transmission contains 0.68 liters of transmission fluid from the factory.


Install a new transmission fluid filler plug and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft) .

5. Lower the vehicle.
