Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Replacement

Preliminary Procedure

1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

2. Remove the steering gear boot. Refer to Steering Gear Boot Replacement .

Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Procedure

1. Place CH-6247 Tie Rod Wrench on the flats of the steering linkage inner tie rod housing.

2. Rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod housing counterclockwise until the steering linkage inner tie rod separates from the rack.

3. Remove the old locking agent from the threads of the rack and the steering linkage inner tie rod.

4. Apply locking agent to the steering linkage inner tie rod threads. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended threadlock material.

5. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment .


Note

A 2.5 mm shim (see graphic) is used for vehicles with wheels up to 18 inches and a 5.6 mm shim is used for vehicles with 19 inch and 20 inch wheels.


Tighten

60 Nm (44 lb ft)
