Circuit/System Description
The sport mode switch, comfort mode switch and intelligent mode switch are combined into one switch module. The body control module (BCM) monitors the switch module. When a driving mode has been selected, the BCM transmits commands to the continuous damping control, steering control, four wheel drive and automatic transmission via serial data transmission in order to control the car's driving characteristics according to the selected mode. The BCM informs the driver about the selected driving mode by switching ON the appropriate LED.

Circuit/System Verification
1.
Verify no communication related DTC is set.
2.
If any communication DTC is set, diagnose those first.
3.
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Suspension System Mode parameter while switching one after the other sport mode, comfort mode and intelligent mode. Verify the reading changes between Normal/Comfort/Sport/Hard.
4.
If the parameter does not change between the specified values, go to Circuit/System Testing.
5.
Observe the sport mode LED, comfort mode LED and intelligent mode LED while switching one after the other sport mode, comfort mode and intelligent mode. The appropriate LED and the tour mode LED should turn ON and OFF.
6.
If the LED does not change between the specified values, go to Circuit/System Testing.
Note
You must perform the circuit/system verification before proceeding with circuit/system testing.
Static Test
1.
Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 and X6 harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module.
2.
Ignition ON, verify the sport mode LED and comfort mode LED are OFF.
3.
If the sport mode LED and/or comfort mode LED does not turn OFF, test the appropriate control circuit for a short circuit to voltage. If the circuit test result is normal, replace the K9 chassis control module.

4.
Ignition OFF, disconnect the X5 harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module.
5.
Ignition ON, verify the intelligent mode LED is OFF.
6.
If the intelligent mode LED does not turn OFF, test the appropriate control circuit S109 Sport Mode Switch terminal 6 for a short to voltage.
Note
You must perform the circuit/system verification before proceeding with circuit/system testing.
Dynamic Test

14.
If not within the specified value, test the wiring harness for a short to ground. If the circuit test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
15.
Test for infinite resistance between S109 Sport Mode Switch terminal 6 and ground.
16.
If not within the specified value, test the wiring harness for a short to ground. If the circuit test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
17.
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Suspension System Mode parameter while installing a 3 A fused jumper wire between the S109 Sport Mode Switch terminal 4 and ground. Verify the reading changes between Normal/Sport Mode.
18.
If the parameter does not change between the specified values, test the wiring harness for short to voltage, short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
19.
