Rear Rail Sectioning

Removal Procedure

Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning .

Refer to Collision Sectioning Warning .


1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

3. Remove the rear compartment floor panel sectioning. Refer to Rear Floor Panel Replacement .

4. Visually inspect the damage. Repair as much of the damage as possible.

5. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Base) Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Corrosion Protection) .

Note

Do not damage any other panels or reinforcements.


Create cut lines on the rear rail sectioning.


7. Cut the panel where sectioning is to be performed.

8. Locate and mark all the necessary factory welds of the rear rail sectioning.

9. Drill all factory welds. Note the number and location of welds for installation of the service assembly.

10. Remove the damaged rear rail sectioning.


Installation Procedure


1. Cut the rear rail sectioning in corresponding locations to fit the remaining original panel. The sectioning joint should be trimmed to allow a gap of one-and-one-half-times the metal thickness at the sectioning joint.


2. Clean and prepare the attaching surfaces for welding.

3. Position the rear rail sectioning on the vehicle.


4. Verify the fit of the rear rail sectioning.

5. Clamp the rear rail sectioning into position.

Refer to Welded, Brazed, and Riveted Joint Specifications .


Spot weld (2) the rear rail sectioning accordingly.


7. MIG-braze (1) the rear rail sectioning.

8. Grind MIG brazed seams

9. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Base) Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Corrosion Protection) .

10. Install the rear compartment floor panel sectioning. Refer to Rear Floor Panel Replacement .

11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
