Engine suspension, rear

To remove

1. Suspend the engine from a lifting beam (83 94 850). Unplug the oxygen (Lambda) sensor connector, remove the cable clamp and clip.

2. Raise the car and remove the front wheels and spoiler sections. Undo the joint between the front exhaust pipe and intermediate pipe.

3. Unbolt the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and turbocharger. Detach the catalytic converter from the bracket or rubber mountings and lower the exhaust pipe.

4. Remove the end piece, steering swivel member on both sides and the rear engine mounting. Use puller 89 96 696. Position a lifting table under the engine, raise the lifting table, undo the other bolts and lower the subframe.

5. Remove the rear engine mounting.

To fit

1. Bolt the engine mounting to the gearbox.

Tightening torque 47 Nm (35 lbf ft).

2. Offer up the sub-frame and bolt it in place.

Tightening torques

115 Nm (85 lbf ft) -front

190 Nm (140.6 lbf ft) -middle

110 Nm + 75° (81.4 lbf ft + 75°) -rear

3. Fit the nuts securing the engine mounting to the sub-frame and tighten them.

Tightening torque: 39 Nm (29 lbf ft).

4. Fit the nuts securing the end pieces and tighten them.

Tightening torque: 75 Nm (55.5 lbf ft).

5. Clean the exhaust pipe joints.

6. Fit the bolt securing the catalytic converter to the bracket on the engine but do not tighten it. Screw the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold or turbocharger. Before assembly, apply Molycote 1000 to the threaded studs on the turbocharger.

7. Tighten the bolt securing the catalytic converter to the bracket on the engine and screw together the joints under the car.

8. Fit the spoiler sections and road wheels.

Tighten the wheel bolts to a torque of 110 Nm (81 lbf ft).

9. Lower the car to the floor and plug in the oxygen (Lambda) sensor connector. Fit the cable clamp and clip.

10. Remove the lifting beam.
