Checking the catalytic converter on the car
A condition for checking the functionality of the catalytic converter on the car is that the closed loop system is OK and that checking is begun before the catalytic converter reaches operating temperature. The catalytic converter should reduce the CO content from 0,5-1,0%% to below 0.2%%.
During the warm-up phase the reaction of the catalytic converter will be accelerated if the engine is revved up to 3000-4000 rpm a few times.
The engine should have cooled down for at least one hour before checking is carried out.
Checking:
2.
Start the engine and run it at idling speed (starting enrichment).
3.
S
Read the CO meter after 2-5 minutes. The CO content should then have become stabilized at 0.5-1.0%%.
4.
Warm up the engine until the radiator fan starts.
5.
Run the engine at idling speed and again read the CO meter. The CO content should now be below 0.2%%.
