Ticking EVAP canister purge valve

Cars concerned

Saab 900 M94 up to chassis No. R2028085.

Background

A clicking sound can be heard from the right-hand side of the instrument panel. It is apparent that the sound is coming from the evaporative emission canister air purging valve. The valve runs only when the coolant temperature is higher than 60°C (140°F), which means that the valve cannot be heard when the engine is cold.

Materials

45 27 149 Hose B206/B204/B234 45 27 149 Hose B258 (car with left-hand drive) 93 94 867 Hose B258 (car with right-hand drive) 42 25 652 Clip

Procedure

1. Remove the short piece of hose (approx. 40 mm) which is located between valve (A) and hose (B) from the evaporative emission canister and connect the hose from the service kit in its place, see illustration.

2. Fix the hose with a clamp, see illustration (not right-hand drive cars with V6 engine).
