Background

The fuel filler pipe on 1994 900 hatchback models is secured to the body with a plastic bolt, P/N 42 26 023. See Figure. If it is necessary to replace this bolt, you must be sure to use a replacement plastic bolt (i.e., not steel) and torque to proper specification. The reason for this is that in the event of a severe rear collision, this plastic bolt is designed to break, reducing the possibility of damage to the fuel filler pipe.
