Air induction system, four-cylinder turbo engine

Air induction system, four-cylinder turbo engine

1. Air intake pipe

2. Air cleaner, consisting of:

3. Cover

4. Filter element

5. Air chamber

6. Connecting hose

7. Pipe to turbocharger and air cooler

8. By-pass line

9. By-pass valve

10. Temperature sensor

11. Throttle

The air induction system consists of the air cleaner, connecting pipes and hoses, turbocharger and air cooler. The air induction system is connected to the throttle body.

The air mass consumed by the engine passes through the induction system where it is cleaned by a filter which removes particles of dust. The air cleaner also acts as an intake silencer.

The turbo engine has a pressure sensor instead of a mass air flow sensor.

For further information on the turbocharger and air cooler, refer to “Exhaust system, cooling system, turbo system”.
