Fault symptom

The CHECK ENGINE lamp lights up if a fault develops in the internal memory of the control module.

Condition

Internal fault in one or more control module memory circuits - RAM, ROM or EPROM. Power-off test on RAM.

Diagnostic procedure

1.	Carefully check all connectors in the control module's grounding and voltage circuits, and also check that all grounding points are properly connected to ground.

2.	Clear the trouble code. If possible, start and drive the car on the road to check whether the code is generated afresh. If it is, change the control module.

3.	If the car cannot be started and no other fault can be found, change the control module.
