TCS active (test signal), signal low/high, no continuity or shorting to ground/batt+



Fault symptom



Condition

No test signal from TCS when starting, TCS signal constantly high or pulses of longer duration than 2.5 seconds.

Diagnostic procedure


1. Use the ISAT command "TCS ACTIVE" in the "READ ON/OFF" menu.

Raise the car and run the front wheels in 1st gear. On opening the throttle, the TCS lamp should light up and the ISAT show "TCS ACTIVE - YES".

If this is OK, proceed to point 5. If not, continue as described below.

2. With the ignition switched off, connect a BOB to the MOTRONIC control module and cable.


Read what is written about TCS active (full-load disconnection) in and possibly also in Service Manual 2:5 "TCS" .

With the warmed-up engine switched off and the ignition switch in the Drive position, check that a 100 Hz PWM signal of 0.25-1.0 V is present on pin 54.

If not, continue with point 5. If the signal is OK, continue with the next point.

3. With the engine switched off and the ignition switch in the Drive position, check whether a test signal from the TCS control module is present on pin 38. This signal should be a 31 Hz PWM signal of about 6 V.


If the signal is not OK, check the lead between pin 38 of the MOTRONIC control module and pin 21 of the TCS control module for continuity/shorting.

4. If the MOTRONIC control module sends a signal out on pin 54 but no test signal is received on pin 38, check the lead between pin 54 of the MOTRONIC control module and pin 11 of the TCS control module.


If the lead is OK, the diagnostic trouble code has probably been generated in the TCS system. If this is the case, continue fault diagnosis as described in Service Manual 2:5 .

5. If no faults can be detected after carrying out the above diagnostic procedure, clear all trouble codes and drive the car on the road to check whether any trouble codes are generated afresh. If they are, turn to for further diagnostic instructions.
