Adaptation of maximum boost pressure

Adaptation of maximum boost pressure

Adaptation of maximum boost pressure takes place continuously during normal driving. If the TRIONIC control module has been removed or anything else has been done that affects the adaptation level, adaptation of the system as described below can be carried out to accelerate adaptation and so achieve maximum performance more rapidly.

Important

The engine should be thoroughly warmed up and basic boost pressure adjusted to the correct value. Use high-octane fuel of high quality. If the pressure switch has turned on and off repeatedly because of too high a boost pressure (due to a faulty boost pressure control valve, for instance), maximum negative adaptation will be obtained. This means that maximum boost pressure does not reach its normal value. To restore maximum boost pressure to its normal value, disconnect and reconnect the control module and carry out adaptation as described in the following.

Carry out wide open throttle acceleration from about 2000 rpm to 4500 rpm in as a high gear as possible. As the boost pressure must have time to stabilize in the adaptation range (2750-4000 rpm), it is best to carry out adaptation on an uphill slope. You might have to repeat the exercise until maximum nominal boost pressure in regard to the grade of fuel used, etc. is attained.
