Charging system
Charging system |
The charging indicator lamp informs the driver whether or not the generator is charging the battery.
When the ignition switch is in the Drive position, positive current (+15 circuit) is supplied via fuse 17 to charging indicator lamp 47E in main instrument display panel 540 and then to generator 2.
When the generator is not rotating or if it is not charging the battery for any reason, the charging indicator lamp circuit will be grounded through it, causing the lamp to light up.
When the generator is charging, terminal D+ will be supplied with the same current as B+. Since current will then be supplied to both terminals of the charging indicator lamp, the lamp will go out.
Important | ||
Since the generator's field excitation is built up through the bulb filament, the bulb rating (2 W) must not be changed. |
||
To increase field excitation still further and to prevent it from disappearing completely if the bulb filament becomes defective, a resistor is connected in parallel with the bulb.
A diode is connected in series with the charging lamp to prevent reverse currents.
