Checking starter interlock +50

Checking starter interlock +50

Fault symptom

The starter motor does not work

Fuse 36 blows

Alarm is not tripped in start position when alarm is activated

The starter motor runs at different ignition positions

Action

1. Check that fuse 36 is intact and supplied with current.

2. Connect ISAT and select "ACTIVATE" on the menu, then select "START DETENT". Activate the start interlock relay with "ON".

It must not be possible to start the car when ISAT shows that the start interlock is activated.

If this does not function, proceed to .

3. If the car cannot be started with inactivated interlock , connect BOB and check that the voltage is 12 V between the theft alarm connection 18 and a good grounding point when the ignition key is turned to the start position.

4. If the voltage is incorrect, check the wiring harness between fuse 36 and the theft alarm connection 18 for open circuit/short-circuit.

The resistance should be < 1 Ohm.

If the fuse blows immediately when starting, the lead is shorted to ground.

5. Check that the voltage is 12 V between the theft alarm connection 1 and a good grounding point when the ignition key is turned to the starting position.

6. If the voltage is correct in step 5,

A check that the voltage is 12 V between the start relay connection 86 and a good grounding point when the ignition key is turned to the starting position.

B Also check that the relay connection 85 is securely grounded.

7. If the voltage is incorrect in step 6, check the wiring harness between the control module connection 1 and the relay connection 86 on the start relay for open circuit/short-circuit.

The resistance should be < 1 Ohm.

If the fuse blows immediately when starting, the lead is shorted to ground.

Cars with automatic transmission

In cars with automatic transmission, the lead runs via the start interlock switch in the gearshift lever.

If there is 12 V at the input of the switch but not at its output in positions P or N, the malfunction is in the switch, continue fault diagnosis in service manual 4:2 Automatic transmission.

Cars with SENSONIC

In cars with automatic clutch, the lead runs via the SENSONIC control module.

If there is 12 V at the control module connection pin 26 but not at its pin 5, the malfunction is in the SENSONIC system, continue fault diagnosis according to Service Manual 4:4 SENSONIC.
