Pinched wiring harness under front sill scuff plate

Background

It is possible that the wiring harness has been pinched between the cable channel and the scuff plate when the front scuff plates were fitted on the left and right-hand side of the car. This may result in operational disorders in the central locking system, electrically operated seats, anti-theft alarm, etc.

Cars affected

All Saab 900 between VIN R2003033 and R2009328.

Diagnostic procedure

1. Remove the front scuff plate on each side of the car.

Important

It is essential that the scuff plates are removed as described and illustrated. Otherwise, there is risk of breaking either the scuff plates or the clips.

If the scuff plates or clips are damaged, they are available as spare parts with part nos:

Scuff plate, left 42 18 723

Scuff plate, right 42 18 731

Loose clips (4 pcs.) 44 21 475

2. Check the cables for any signs of damage from pinching or pressure.

If the cable insulation is damaged, affix adhesive tape around the cable.

If the damage to the cable is more serious and there is risk of it breaking, it must be soldered and taped.

3. Secure the cables with cable ties, part no. 79 71 864 (18 pcs.) as illustrated.

Important

Ensure that there are no cables outside the "fingers" of the cable channel. If this is the case and the scuff plates are fitted, the cable may be damaged again.

4. The wiring harness to the electronic unit must also be checked and adjusted as necessary on cars with anti-theft alarm.

5. Cut off any excess lengths of cable tie.

6. Refit the scuff plates.

Marking the modification identity plate

Mark the modification identity plate in box "A4" when the problem has been rectified

If the measures were carried out by the importer, mark the plate with a "7" and if carried out by the dealer, with an "8".
