Lubricating system

Lubricating system

The mode of operation of the gearbox lubrication system is such that the crown wheel, together with the gear wheels on 1st and 2nd gears, splashes oil into a number of strategically placed oil pockets in the gear case. (When the car, and thus the crown wheel, is at a standstill, the gear wheel of 1st gear takes over the task.) From the oil pockets there are channels to the centre channels of the input and output shafts. From here the bearings of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears receive oil through the holes that are drilled in each centre channel. The gear wheels of 1st and 2nd gears have slide bearings on the output shaft. 3rd, 4th and 5th pinions have needle bearings on the input shaft.

In order to increase efficiency there is a low level of oil in the gearbox to avoid unnecessary splashing of oil.

Reverse gear lubricating system

The reverse gear has its own lubrication system. 1st pinion splashes oil up into a collecting pocket in the wall of the clutch housing. The oil is guided into the collecting pocket by an oil guidance plate on the reversing gear lever. From the collecting pocket the oil is transported through the reverse gear shaft and out through the shaft's three radial oil lubrication holes. In this way the reverse gear's teflon bushes, axial bearing, synchronizing and brass bushing are lubricated.
