Symptom: ABS (ANTI LOCK) warning lamp on, no ABS function.
Pump motor, faulty
Fault symptom
ABS (ANTI LOCK) warning lamp on, no ABS function.
Condition
The pump motor is tested when the car has been started and the wheels begin to rotate
(>6 km/h). It is then monitored continuously. The trouble code is generated:
•
|
If the motor's power supply
drops below a certain level within 100 milliseconds of the pump motor relay having stopped
activating it.
|
•
|
If the motor's power supply remains above a certain level for more than 5
seconds without the pump motor relay activating it.
|
Diagnostic help
The pump motor can be activated using the ISAT scan tool.
If the ABS control module has no ground connection (connector pin 16) a
diagnostic trouble code will be generated.
Diagnostic procedure
1 Check the pump motor
-
|
Connect the ISAT scan tool.
Ignition switch in the ON position.
|
-
|
Activate the pump motor as described under "Diagnostic help". Listen for the
sound of the motor switching on and off.
|
Does the pump motor work?
Continue with point 3.
Check the pump's 2-pin connector for continuity. If the wiring is OK,
continue with point 2.
2 Check the control module's power supply and connection to
ground
-
|
Check the condition of the battery.
See Service Manual 3:1, Electrical system, Battery
.
|
Is the condition of the battery OK?
Continue with point 2.
Rectify the fault.
3 Forcibly run the pump motor
-
|
With the ignition switched off,
connect battery voltage to the motor's positive terminal by means of the screw on the
front of the control module.
|
Does this activate the motor?
Continue with point 4.
Change the pump motor.
4 Final check
-
|
Clear the diagnostic trouble
code.
|
-
|
Drive the car at varying engine loads and rpm for 5 minutes.
|
-
|
Read the diagnostic trouble code.
|
Is the diagnostic trouble code stored?
