Replacing handbrake shoes

Lift the car and take off the back
wheel.
|
2.
|
Press the brake pistons back with a pair of grips.
|
3.
|
Remove the two brake caliper securing bolts.
Disconnect the brake pipe from the clip. Take care not to damage the brake pipe when
disconnecting it.
Clamp a welding clamp to the silencer and bind the brake caliper to it with a cable tie.
Also suspend the right-side brake caliper with a cable tie.

Screw back the handbrake adjustment through the hole in the brake disc.

5.
|
Remove the return spring on the back side.
|
6.
|
Press the cable holder out of the bracket and remove the cable from the lever.
|
7.
|
Remove the brake discs.
|
8.
|
Use special tool 89 95 607 to remove the return springs and 89 96 647 for the
bracket pin.
|
9.
|
Remove the brake shoes, lever and adjusting unit.
|
10.
|
Check the lever and adjustment unit for wear.
|

Position the brake shoes, lever
and adjusting nut on the shield.
|
2.
|
Use special tool 89 96 647 to fit the springs to the bracket pin and 89 95 607 to
fit the upper and lower return springs.

3.
|
Fit the brake disc, apply thread locking compound and tighten the securing bolts.
Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.4 lbf ft)
|
4.
|
Fit the handbrake cable to the lever.
|
5.
|
Fit the cable holder to the bracket.
|
6.
|
Fit the return spring.
|
7.
|
Fit the brake caliper and tighten the two securing bolts.
Tightening torque 80 Nm (59 lbf ft)
|
8.
|
Press the brake pipe into the clip.
|
9.
|
Adjust the brake shoes through the hole in the brake disc. Unscrew the shoes
until the disc locks. Then screw back until the disc is released.

10.
|
Carry out the same procedure as above and
to replace
the brake shoe on the other rear wheel.
|
11.
|
Fit the wheels and lower the car slightly.
|
12.
|
Check the handbrake operation. Pull up the handbrake to the 6th notch. The
wheels should then be locked.
|

Adjust the cable equalisation (see

).

14.
|
Lower the car and check the hydraulic brake system operation.
Depress the brake pedal to force out the brake shoes.
