Leaking brake fluid reservoir |
Cars affected |
Saab 900 M94-98
Background |
Depending on the manner in which the brake fluid reservoir cap has been screwed on, leaks may arise in certain adverse positions. This can be detected by inspecting the engine bay or by the brake fluid warning lamp going on.
This is caused by a non-return valve in the level indicator pipe in the cap acting as a pump when the cap has been fitted incorrectly. Due to this, the fluid cannot drain back into the reservoir. Eventually, the fluid is drained through the vent hole in the cap. This phenomenon is not dependent on the fluid level but can be aggravated by an overfilled reservoir.
Procedure |
First, make sure there are no other leaks in the system.
Follow the following instructions to rectify the problem.
1. |
Unscrew the cap.
|
2. |
LHD:
Turn the level indicator pipe so that the drain hole is 180° to the electrical connection.
RHD: Turn the level indicator pipe so that the drain hole is 150° to the electrical connector. |
3. |
Fit the cap. The drain hole should be turned towards the front.
