The acceleration sensor senses acceleration and retardation in the direction in which the car is travelling. When retardation increases beyond a certain value, the processor starts to process the signal from the acceleration sensor more carefully. If the retardation continues to increase and exceeds the value which has been defined as being the start of a collision, the processor will send a current pulse to the electric detonators which inflate the airbags.
The power backup is supplied with power from the voltage converter which increases the voltage to just over twice the battery voltage. There is a power backup for each detonator and an adidtional one which for a short time keeps the processor operative in the event of a power loss.
