Control module grounding
The control module is grounded by means of the three retaining bolts. No ground
leads from other systems must be connected to the control module retaining bolts as this
could cause operation of the airbag system to be disrupted and provoke a fault indication from
the control module. Inadequate grounding will not cause a diagnostic trouble code to be
generated. When grounding is restored after having been interrupted, this corresponds to
power turn-on. The control module will then start its self-test again and the SRS lamps will
come on for 3-4 seconds. If the ground connection is broken again during these 3-4 seconds,
this corresponds to power turn-off and the lamps will go out. If connection to ground is
broken and restored during the 3-4 seconds, this corresponds to power turn-off and turn-on
and will cause the SRS lamps to flicker.
