Working on the airbag system
When carrying out work on the airbag system it is absolutely essential to
observe the following points:
•
All work must be undertaken with
the utmost care and as described in the Service Manual. There is a danger of personal injury
if handled incorrectly.
•
When carrying out work on the airbag system, always start by first disconnecting
the negative cable from the battery.
•
Components that are part of the system may not be dismantled or repaired. They
must be handled with care and stored in a dry place at room temperature.
•
Airbags must be stored at room temperature. At higher temperatures the airbag
ages and at temperatures above +135°C there is a risk of self-detonation.
•
Airbags must be stored in a separate place, away from storage areas for
petroleum products or other flammable materials.
•
Airbags are classified as pyrotechnical articles and must be stored and handled
in conformity with the laws and regulations in the country concerned.
•
Airbags must be fitted immediately after they have been collected from the
stores. If work is interrupted, the airbag should be returned to the stores where it must be kept
under lock and key. Under no circumstances should an airbag be left
unattended.
•
Airbags must be stored and carried with the metal casing facing down to avoid
injury in the event of accidental detonation.
