The evaporator's high-pressure hose

The evaporator's high-pressure hose

To remove

Important

The evaporator's high-pressure pipe must be cut during removal. The spare is a hose in two parts.

1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Remove the grille.

3. Remove the headlamp on the left-hand side of the car.

4. Drain the AC system of refrigerant.

5. Remove the battery.

6. Remove the bolt in the bracket securing the battery cable holder.

7. Remove the main fuse box.

Important

Both the receiver and the compressor oil absorb moisture from the air which cannot be removed. All connections which are opened should therefore be plugged immediately.

8. Remove the high-pressure pipe from the holder on the wheel housing.

9. Remove the high-pressure pipe from the holder on the bulkhead wall.

10. Remove the bolt from the PAD connection adjacent to the receiver.

11. Plug the openings.

12. Bend aside the compressor's high-pressure pipe.

13. Unscrew the high-pressure pipe from the PAD connection adjacent to the lead-through in the bulkhead wall.

14. Plug the openings.

15. Cut the pipe as shown in the illustration. Lift out the pipe sections upwards.

To fit

1. Fit the rear part of the high-pressure pipe in place from above.

2. LHD cars: Raise the car.

3. Lubricate a new O-ring with synthetic oil and fit it on the high-pressure pipe.

4. Screw the high-pressure pipe to the block or the PAD connection.

Tightening torque, block: 20 Nm (14.8 lbf ft) Tightening torque, PAD connection: 9 Nm (6.6 lbf ft)

5. LHD cars: Lower the car.

6. Remove the bolt securing the power steering fluid reservoir.

7. Remove the screw securing the pipe between the power steering fluid reservoir and the servo pump.

8. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir's pipe from the holder under the battery tray.

9. Unplug the connectors by the radiator fan.

10. Lift up the power steering fluid reservoir's hose and rest it on the battery tray.

11. Remove the clip holding the low-pressure side's service connection.

12. Cars with a turbo engine:

12.a. Remove the hose between the charge air cooler and the throttle body.

12.b. Remove the expansion tank retaining bolt.

13. Cars with a manual gearbox: Secure the clutch pedal in the depressed position.

14. Cars with automatic transmission:

14.a. Remove the nut securing the selector lever to the gearbox.

14.b. Remove the two bolts securing the gear selector's bracket to the gearcase.

15. Fit the front part of the high-pressure pipe in place as shown in the illustration.

16. Lubricate new O-rings with synthetic vaseline and fit them on the pipes at the receiver's PAD connection.

17. Fit the pipes in the PAD connection adjacent to the receiver.

18. Tighten the bolt securing the pipes to the PAD connection.

Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.6 lbf ft)

19. Lubricate a new O-ring with synthetic vaseline and fit it at the joint between the front and rear parts of the high-pressure pipe.

20. Screw together the front and rear parts of the high-pressure pipe.

Tightening torque: 11 Nm (8.1 lbf ft)

21. Fit the high-pressure pipe in the holders on the bulkhead wall and wheel housing.

22. Fit the power steering hydraulic liquid reservoir in place and tighten the bolt.

23. Tighten the bolt securing the power steering fluid reservoir's pipe.

24. Fit the power steering fluid reservoir's pipe in the holder under the battery tray.

25. Plug in the connectors by the radiator fan.

26. Fit the low-pressure side's service connection in place and press on the clip.

27. Cars with automatic transmission:

27.a. Tighten the nut securing the gear selector lever to the gearbox.

27.b. Tighten the two bolts securing the gear selector lever's bracket to the gearcase.

28. Tighten the bolt securing the bracket for the battery cable holder.
