The bonnet locking mechanism consists of a spring catch located in the front cross-member which engages with the bonnet's spring-loaded striker pin when the bonnet is closed.

The bonnet release mechanism is operated by a cable running from the handle inside the car under the instrument panel situated on the left in LHD cars and on the right in RHD cars.

When the bonnet is released, the front of the bonnet springs up. The bonnet can then be opened by releasing a safety catch. The bonnet lock is centrally positioned and engages with the front of the radiator cross-member. The safety catch is situated to the right of the bonnet lock.

The bonnet is equipped with two gas-filled struts to hold it in the open position. These gas springs are positioned along the front wings, one on each side, and are fastened to the body and bonnet by means of ball pins.

The bonnet hinges require no lubrication and are provided with a means of adjustment.
