Handbrake |

Check handbrake lever travel. If the wheels are not locked at the 6th notch, adjust the handbrake.
• |
Before adjusting the brake shoes, check that the cable does not exert a pull on the lever.
|
• |
Screw out the adjuster until the brake disc is blocked.
|
• |
Then screw in the adjuster until the brake disc can rotate freely. It is extremely important to slacken the brake shoes by a sufficient amount to avoid rattle. This corresponds to 7 notches.
|
• |
Repeat this procedure on the other rear wheel.
|
• |
Replace the brake shoes if more than 10 thread turns of the adjuster are visible through the adjusting hole in the disc.
|
Check the amount of lever travel in reserve (cars with single-cable system) |

If the lever still travels past the 6th notch, the handbrake cable equalizer must be adjusted.
• |
Pull up the handbrake lever to the 2nd notch.
|
• |
Tension the cables by means of the adjusting nut on the rod until the brake starts to act.
|
• |
Check the result. Repeat the procedure if necessary.
|
• |
Refit the wheels
Tighten the wheel bolts to a torque of: 117 Nm (86 lbf ft) - light alloy wheels 100 Nm (74 lbf ft) - pressed steel wheels
|
Check the amount of lever travel in reserve (cars with two-cable system) |

• |
Pull up the handbrake lever to the 2nd notch.
|
• |
Tighten the adjusting nut on the rod until the brake starts to act.
|
• |
Release the handbrake lever and apply it again. The wheels should be locked at the 3rd-6th notch.
