Steel washers vs. copper washers used when performing engine repairs
|
When installing a new cylinder head or carrying out engine repairs, the sealing washers for the banjo fittings at the coolant bridge between the heads at the rear of the V6 engine should be changed to a steel washer with a rubber inner seal, P/N 46 20 324. This same washer should also be used when connecting the oil lines to the oil cooler in the center of the “V”. Earlier production engines used solid copper washers, P/N 45 02 555.
These two types of washers are interchangeable (there are no machining differences to the surfaces being sealed) but the steel washer is preferred whenever possible.
1994-95 with V6 engine.
