Radiator, 4-cyl.

Radiator, 4-cyl.

To remove

1. Remove the charge air cooler (turbo).

2. Remove the grille.

3. Release the engine oil cooler (certain cars) and hang it up in such a way that the hoses are not damaged.

4. Remove the condenser from the radiator (A/C).

5. Disconnect and remove the battery. Remove the battery shelf (SENSONIC).

6. Open the drain plug and drain the coolant. Remove the lid on the expansion tank to speed up the draining.

7. Remove the bypass hose together with the intake hose (turbo).

8. Undo the upper radiator hoses from the radiator. (The top one must be removed on both B258i models.)

9. Separate the radiator fan's electrical connections.

10. Release the servo pump's oil pipe and the clips for the radiator's breather hose from the radiator crossmember and turn the oil pipe to one side.

11. Remove the 2 screws securing the radiator fan cover and lift it up.

12. Remove the gearbox's oil pipes by the oil cooler, remove the screw which holds the pipes to the radiator and plug the connections (automatic).

13. Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator, remove the clamps which hold the radiator to the radiator crossmember and pull up the radiator from the rubber mountings so that the clip for the A/C compressor's cable can be undone.

14. Lift out the radiator.

To fit

1. Spread some vaseline on the radiator's rubber bushings.

2. Lower the radiator into position and refit the clamps. Refit the clip for the A/C compressor.

3. Refit the gearbox's oil pipes to the oil cooler (automatic).

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft).

Do not forget the screw which secures the pipes to the radiator.

4. Check that the radiator's drain plug is tightened.

Tightening torque 4 Nm (3 lbf ft)

Refit the lower radiator hose to the radiator.

5. Fit in the radiator fan cover over the radiator and tighten the two screws.

6. Reconnect the radiator fan and refit the upper radiator hoses.

7. Refit the clips for the radiator's breather hose to the radiator crossmember and fit in and tighten the screw to the servo pump's oil pipe.

8. Refit the bypass hose together with the intake hose and the pressure pipe between the charge-air cooler and the throttle body (turbo).

9. Fill with coolant and check the system for leaks.

10. Refit the battery shelf (SENSONIC). Refit and reconnect the battery.

11. Check the oil level in the gearbox and top it up if necessary (automatic).

12. Refit the condenser (A/C).

13. Refit the engine oil cooler (certain cars).

14. Refit the grille.

15. Refit the charge air cooler (turbo).

16. Bleed the system as follows (B258i): Fill the system to the MAX level, screw on the pressure cap, start the engine and warm it up, preferably at varying rpm, until the radiator fan starts.

Remove the pressure lid and fill up to MAX again.

Refit the pressure lid and let the engine run at varying speeds until the radiator fan has started a further three times.

Switch off the engine and top up to the MAX level, if necessary.
