P1206, P1207(SE only)
Symptom: CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) on
Secondary air injection relay, output from control module
low/high,
no continuity or shorting to ground/batt+
Symptom
CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) on
Condition
No continuity or shorting to ground/batt+ in the circuit to pin
26.

Activate the ISAT command
"SECOND. AIR RELAY" in the "READ
ON/OFF" or activate the ISAT command "SECOND. AIR RELAY" in the
"ACTIVATE" menu and listen to check whether the pump and solenoid
valve are activated.
If the pump is activated, proceed to point 5. If it is not, continue as described
below.
|
2.
|
Connect a lead between a good ground and pin 85 of the secondary air injection
pump relay. With the ignition switch in the Drive position, the relay should operate and the
pump start running.
If the relay operates and the pump starts, proceed to point 4.
If the relay does not operate, check whether current is
present on pin 86 of the relay when the ignition switch is in the Drive
position (the current comes from fuse 19, the same as for the ignition
coil).
If the relay does not operate, despite current on pin
86 and pin 85 connected to ground, check the resistance of the relay
coil.
The resistance across pins 85 and 86 should be about 60 ohms. If it is not, change the
relay.
|
3.
|
If the relay operates but the pump does not start, check whether
current from fuse 4 (Maxi 1) is present on pin 30 of the relay.
Connect a jumper between pins 30 and 87 of the relay
holder and check whether the air injection pump receives current. Also
check that the pump is properly connected to grounding point G30.
If the pump is grounded and receiving current but still does not work, change the
pump.
|
4.
|
Check the lead between pin 26 of the control module and pin 85 of
the relay for continuity/
shorting.
Clear the trouble code and wait for the engine
temperature to drop to about 30°C (160°F).
Start the engine and check that the control module grounds pin 26 for
about 60 seconds (engine temperature above 30°C). The control module
delays this function for about five seconds after the engine has
started.
The easiest way to carry out this test is with a voltmeter connected to
batt+ and pin 85 of the relay.
Note
|
The pump will run for a maximum of 80 seconds when the engine is
cold. If the control module does not ground pin 26, try carrying out
point 4 once again at a lower engine temperature.

|
Clear the trouble code and drive the car on the road to check
whether the code is generated afresh. If it is, turn to
for
further diagnostic instructions.
