Positive cable attachment beside automatic transmission fluid pipe

Cars concerned

Saab 900 M95 and M96 with turbo engine and automatic between chassis numbers: S2000001-S2033849 - T2000001-T2000167

Background

Attachment of positive cable beside the automatic transmission fluid level pipe is inadequate. This is partly the fault of the nut securing the fluid level pipe bracket, and partly that of the positive cable clamp which does not lock properly. This can cause the fluid level pipe to become detached, resulting in leakage, and can cause the positive cable to come too close to the exhaust pipe, resulting in it melting.

As the positive cable has a new fixing, the attachment of the positive and negative leads to the battery tray must also be changed.

Materials

79 69 405 Clip

47 38 100 Clamp

80 73 512 Locknut

79 78 109 Screw

44 11 369 Holder

Procedure

1. Remove the nut and clamp beside the oil dipstick bracket on the transmission.

2. Discard the nut and clamp.

3. Attach the oil dipstick bracket to the transmission using the locknut in the modification kit.

4. Remove the automatic transmission dipstick.

5. Thread the clamp on to the dipstick pipe right down to the pipe bracket. Note the appearance of the clamp in order to fit it correctly, see drawing.

6. Do up the clamp.

7. Fit the new holder to the battery tray and attach the positive and negative leads, see drawing.

8. Thread the rubber-covered cable clip on to the positive cable. Attach the clip in the previously fitted clamp.

9. Refit the dipstick.
